Services
College Admissions Support: Philip meets with prospective students, reviews their credentials for college, discuss their interests and identify/recommend potential paths of success that balance the student's interests, goals and qualifications. He also advises parents to discuss their concerns and assist with the process of navigating the college admissions process.
Molding Students for Admissions Success College admissions is about checking as many of the boxes as possible when applying. Ensuring a student's experience is rounded is a big part of this process. Even in senior year, students can take steps to fill in blanks on a college's admissions acceptance sheet. Philip will work with students and parents to help find ways to strengthen a student's background for success in the admissions process.
Application, Essay, and Document Review: Assuming you meet any minimum standards for admission (some colleges have a baseline GPA, SAT Score, or similar expectation), a student's successful admission becomes a matter of meeting specific expectations of the admitting institution and outshining other candidates. There are several factors colleges look for in prospective students and ensuring they are presented accurately and effectively is critical to winning acceptances. Philip draws on his extensive experience in Higher Ed to provide students with the approach for each of the schools on their application list.
Letters of Recommendation: Getting an effective Letter of Recommendation is influenced by two factors: How well your recommender writes them and what information you provide them to include. I will review a student's academic, extra-curricular, professional, and personal experiences and recommend the best set of facts/information to include in a letter. To be clear, I do NOT write Letters of Recommendation for a fee nor will I recommend a student I have not worked with in a classroom, work, or volunteer setting. It would be unethical to do so.
Graduate School and Law School: Approaching grad school or law school comes with a different set of challenges and require a different approach. Philip will meet with prospective students to discuss those aims, recommend best paths given their interests and credentials and build a plan for them to move forward.
When to Engage a College Admissions Advisor
Undergraduate: This depends on the readiness and goals of each student. Any time during High School is appropriate to start thinking about a plan for college if the student has specific goals for college already. The fall semester of a student's Junior Year is the best time for all students and their parents to start seriously thinking about a post high school plan that includes college. The college planning timeline begins in January of their junior year.
Graduate/Law: Once an Undergraduate college student thinks they may want to go to Grad School or Law School is when they should seek advise.
What Philip Doesn't Do
Financial Advising: Navigating college expenses, financial aid options and financial planning is a separate area of expertise. Philip recommends discussing with your financial planner or engaging a Financial Aid expert for assistance in this area.
Athletic/Sports Admissions: While Philip is happy to work with student athletes to navigate many aspects of the admissions process, he does not negotiate with Athletic Departments, Coaches, or University Admissions on behalf of student athletes.
